About me
About me
I am originally from Eastbourne and started in the double glazing industry at the early age of 15. My school was unable to find a work experience placement that suited my criteria of ‘not in an office’, so my mother found me a week’s work with a local double glazing company. I’ve always been a hands on person, and this week changed my life forever in which I found my true vocation. The company offered me a full time job once I’d left school.
I went to my secondary school of St Richards in Bexhill in the morning to collect my GCSE results, then returned to the same company in the afternoon to secure my future job. I worked with this company for several years, then progressed to purchasing my own van and moved onto a small family run company in Polegate. I stayed with this company for six years but became tired of the owner relying on me and my high quality of work, and to a degree expecting me to operate the company without the benefits or reward of being an owner. By this stage of my life I had got married, had children and purchased my own home in Bexhill, so needed to be in control of my destiny.
Already owning my own van and tools, I knew there was a market for customers wanting high quality workmanship, and specialist knowledge in an industry which is typically plagued by cowboys and dodgy salesmen.
Setting up David Sherlock Home Improvements was the next logical step, where I have used all I have learned over the years to set up and operate a company based on high standards of workmanship, quality materials/products and honesty/integrity.
These ethos are what I operate by, and what I feel make me unique in the market. The majority of my work these days is either repeat customers or recommendations which tells me I am doing something right.
I follow the ethos of “you’re only as good as your last job”, and I regularly post photos of recently completed work on my Facebook page.
